Aurangabad/Mumbai:
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has registered a significant presence in the Maharashtra Municipal Elections 2026, emerging as an influential player in several urban local bodies, particularly in regions with sizeable minority populations.
According to the final results, Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) once again proved to be AIMIM’s strongest bastion, where the party secured an impressive 33 seats, reaffirming its political hold in the Marathwada region. The party also delivered a strong performance in Malegaon, winning 21 seats, underlining its continued dominance in the textile town’s civic politics.

In Nanded, AIMIM won 13 seats, while in Dhule it secured 10 seats, reflecting steady organisational growth in northern Maharashtra. The party also made its presence felt in Solapur, clinching 8 seats, and Amravati, where it won 11 seats, marking an important foothold in the Vidarbha region.
In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, AIMIM showed modest but notable gains. The party won 6 seats in Govandi (Mumbai) and 5 seats in Mumbra, indicating its expanding urban footprint in pockets of the state capital and its suburbs.
Smaller yet symbolically important victories were recorded in Akola (3 seats), Ahmednagar (2 seats), Jalna (2 seats) and Parbhani (1 seat), suggesting that the party is gradually broadening its reach beyond its traditional strongholds.
Political observers note that while AIMIM may not be a decisive force across Maharashtra, its consistent performance in select municipal corporations and councils positions it as a relevant regional stakeholder, particularly in closely contested civic bodies. The results are also expected to strengthen the party’s bargaining power in local governance and coalition dynamics at the municipal level.

With the 2026 civic polls concluded, AIMIM’s leadership is likely to focus on consolidating these gains, strengthening grassroots networks, and preparing for upcoming local and Assembly-level political contests in the state.
