Sufi Islamic Board Announces New Leadership for Assam, Meghalaya

​GUWAHATI / SHILLONG: In a major move to strengthen its organizational footprint and advance its core mission of national unity, spiritual harmony, and youth empowerment across Northeast India, the Sufi Islamic Board (SIB) has officially announced the appointment of its new state leadership and Working Committee members for Assam and Meghalaya.

​The appointments were formally approved and released by the SIB Central Leadership under the direction of National President Mansoor Khan. The restructuring comes at a vital time as the Board scales up its grassroots social initiatives in the region, including its last years collaboration with the Government of India’s ‘MY Bharat’ initiative for the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva, Viksit Bharat’ campaign against drug abuse and narco-terrorism.

​Key Leadership Appointments

​Assam State Chapter: Imran Ahmed has been appointed as the State President of the Sufi Islamic Board, Assam Chapter. Ahmed, a prominent voice against substance abuse and community vulnerability in the Northeast, will lead the state’s strategic expansion. He has appointed Ubaidyllah Naseem Ahmed, Fakrul Islam, Raihudfin Ahmed and Mohammad Saeed Ahmed (all from Hojai district in Assam)as his working team and has entrusted them with the responsibility to expand the footprint of SIB across Assam.

​Meghalaya State Chapter: A dedicated executive body has been instituted to oversee and implement social welfare, de-addiction programs, and inter-faith dialogues across the state’s hills and urban hubs. The team of Meghalaya led by Aameer Nongbri as the state President and has Haider Hussain, Yusuf Sheikh and Rais Khan ( all from Shillong ) as it’s working Committee which has committed to complete the 12 district committees very shortly.

​The newly formed State Working Committees for both Assam and Meghalaya comprise respected spiritual leaders, educationists, youth icons, and social activists representing diverse districts. The committee members will focus heavily on spreading the true message of Sufism—rooted in Wahdat-al-Wajood (universal peace and non-dualism)—while actively confronting radical ideologies and the growing threat of drug cartels in the border states.

In an Exclusive Conversation with Salaam people.com Sufi Islamic Board National President Mansoor Khan remarked:

​”The Northeast is a vital cultural and spiritual pillar of India. By establishing robust Working Committees in Assam and Meghalaya, we are empowering local leaders to foster peace, promote communal harmony, and build a drug-free future for our youth. Our newly appointed teams will work hand-in-hand with civic bodies and the youth ministries to ensure the ideals of Sufi Parampara actively contribute to a Viksit Bharat. We are working to establish our footprint to the rest of the states of North East and we invite all like-minded youth from these states to join SIB and make the North Eastern states strong to contribute to Viksit Bharat vision 2047″.
