Dargah Ajmer Sharif Committee Issues Warning Over ‘Unauthorized’ Meeting; Sufi Islamic Board Seeks Clarification
AJMER / MUMBAI — A controversy has emerged surrounding an alleged unauthorized meeting ( The first formal meeting of the ‘Maulaiyat Committee Markaz -E-Ajmer’ was successfully held at Ataenoor which is the official Court yard of Ajmer Dargha in the month of April 2026) .
The Dargah Committee, operating under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, has issued a formal warning to the Sufi Islamic Board, calling their social media announcements “misleading” and “unacceptable.”
In response, the Sufi Islamic Board has expressed its absolute respect for the statutory authority of the Dargah, seeking specific written guidelines to ensure their spiritual activities remain fully aligned with the law.

The Dispute: “Unauthorized” Meeting at Ahata-e-Noor
The matter came to light following an official letter (Letter No. 299) issued by Mohammad Bilal Khan (Retd. BSF), the Nazim & Chief Executive Officer of the Dargah Committee, Dargah Khwaja Saheb, Ajmer.
According to the Dargah Committee, a Facebook post published by the “Sufi Islamic Board” dated May 11, 2026, claimed that a body called the “Maulaiyat Committee, Markaz-e-Ajmer” had organized its first working committee meeting during afternoon hours at Ahata-e-Noor inside the Dargah Sharif premises. The social media post noted that the committee’s objective was to spread “True Islam” and denounce “political Islam.”
The Nazim strictly countered this development, pointing out that the Dargah Sharif is a statutory institution governed by the federal Dargah Khwaja Saheb Act, 1955. The administration firmly stated:
“The act described hereinabove clearly indicates that the meeting of your so-called committee was convened within the Dargah premises without prior approval/permission of the Dargah Committee and was projected on social media in a manner suggesting official association with a Government of India institution. Such act is wholly unauthorized, misleading, and unacceptable.”
The Dargah administration ordered the Sufi Islamic Board to immediately delete all related publicity material from social media, withdraw the representation, and warned that failure to comply would result in appropriate legal action.

Sufi Islamic Board Responds: Seeking Harmony and Clarity
Following the notice, the Sufi Islamic Board issued a formal, respectful clarification signed by its National President, Mansoor Khan, from their headquarters in Mumbai.
The Board explicitly distanced itself from any intent to challenge the government-vested authority of the Dargah Committee. “We wish to categorically state that the Sufi Islamic Board and the Maulaiyat Committee, Markaz-e-Ajmer have neither any intention nor any desire to interfere with, challenge, or disturb the statutory and administrative authority of the Dargah Committee,” Mansoor Khan wrote.
Emphasizing that their sole objective is to promote peace, love, harmony, and the spiritual legacy of Huzoor Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz (R.A.) and the Chishtiya Order, the Board requested formal guidelines from the Nazim to prevent any future misunderstandings.
The Board submitted five specific queries to the Dargah administration, asking:
Whether prior permission is explicitly mandatory for holding spiritual gatherings or meetings relating to the Chishtiya Order within Ajmer.
What specific guidelines exist regarding the use of the name, image, or references connected to Dargah Sharif in public or social media communications.
If there are any standing restrictions concerning the propagation of teachings by khadims, devotees, or affiliated organizations.
How organizations like theirs can properly contribute to the promotion of the Chishtiya Order while completely respecting the administration.
Whether a written protocol can be formally issued to ensure all concerned parties act in legal conformity.

Next Steps
The Sufi Islamic Board has urged the Dargah Committee to consider their prayer favorably and issue written directives so that their propagation of the Chishtiya Order can continue in a “lawful, peaceful, and dignified manner.”
As of now, the public social media retractions are underway, and the community awaits whether the Nazim’s office will officially issue the requested comprehensive code of conduct for spiritual organizations operating around the historic shrine.
